Pronto Campi: the teen campsite of Le Marche!

The route description without tourist detours

Follow the Autostrada A14 until the Pesaro Urbino exit. Some navigation systems recommend the Cattolica exit, but this is guaranteed to lead to a scenic route with a 12% climb in the last two kilometres before arrival. So don't do it, take the Pesaro Urbino exit!

Welcome to Agriturismo Pronto Campi!

Small and spaciously laid out

Pronto Campi is a small-scale campsite run by Dutch owners Aad and Sigrid and located a stone's throw from Urbino in The Marches. After a three-year renovation, the campsite opened in 2018 with 25 pitches for caravans, tents and trailer tents.  The sanitary facilities have been furnished with love and attention to detail and we dare say, they are as comfortable as you are used to at home! The swimming pool is no less than 14 by 7 metres and, due to its location at 350 metres altitude, it offers great views of the surrounding mountains and hills of Le Marche!

On the flat upper area there are 6 places for caravans, camper vans and large trailer tents and on the terraced lower area 19 places for tents and smaller trailer tents. The spacious sites all average about 100m2, about 8-9m wide and at least 11m deep.

The campsite for teenagers in the Marches

You can also organise your own activities, whether it is a water volleyball tournament, a football tournament or going to town or the beach together. Our own children and the holiday staff are happy to help arrange it or to go with you to show you where the fun is outside the campsite!

Beautiful surroundings

The view from all the pitches is magnificent, no industrial areas, roads or other eyesores, you can really enjoy your peace and quiet here even though Urbino is only an 8-minute drive away. The nearest beach is in Pesaro, 35km away, but you can choose from 180km of beaches to the north and south of Pesaro!

The campsite faces south and although we have already planted trees, they will need a few more years to provide real shade. You can therefore borrow a tarp from us for free to create more shade because it gets hot in the summer here. There are water points on every terrace and at the entrance to the upper ground. There are two bathing stalls, both in the main building, with 6 showers/toilets, one of which is extra large so that parents can help their children with the shower.

Eating and Drinking

We have a bread service, you can place your order with us and take it out in the morning in the bar. Once a week we have pizza night, when the kids can make their own pizza and we also serve pizza and wine for the parents. In 2020 we have (finally) added a pasta night; cooking with a real Italian chef who will first tell you about the history of making pasta, and then spoil and surprise you with changing pasta dishes with ingredients from the region and the season!

We have a cosy bar where you can enjoy a cold beer from the tap or a local wine in the afternoon. Pronto Campi is a friendly place; if we are not there, you can just pour yourself a drink and the children can get an ice cream (if mum and dad let them!).

So much to do and see

For the active family there is plenty to do and see in the area. Apart from the sea, 20 minutes from the campsite there is a beautiful river that runs through the Gola del Furlo, a gorge carved out over the centuries along one of the oldest roads in Italy, the Via Flaminia. We like to go here in the summer because it is usually quieter than by the sea and certainly cooler. You can swim and boat in the river and I like to throw out a fishing rod. There is a bar where the children can have an ice cream and the parents can enjoy a locally brewed beer. It is really worth a visit.

There are two climbing parks within an hour's drive, a sea aquarium in Cattolica, a tasting museum a la Nemo, two water parks and the amusement park Mirabilandia in Ravenna. Also worth a visit are the towns of Onferno, Santarcangelo di Romagna and Frasassi and the underground passages of Ancona and Fano!

Also the history of our region, Montefeltro, is very fascinating, the Montefeltro family fought for decades with the Malatesta which resulted in a fascinating landscape of castles, fortresses and fortifications that you can still visit. Our favourites are Gradara and San Leo, but also a trip to San Marino and Gubbio is very worthwhile!

Great location, beautiful tent, nice and hospitable owners. And nice people on the campsite. The campsite is cosy with good breakfast service, nice pool and good coffee and wine. The pizza nights are great.

As mentioned, Urbino is one of the most important Renaissance cities next to Florence and the birthplace of the painter Rafaello Sanzio. However, Urbino is not very well known outside Italy and this has its advantages. Even in the middle of the summer, you can enjoy all the beauty that the city has to offer without being overrun by mass tourism.

Urbino is a city full of energy all year round and that is (partly) because it is also a university city. About ten thousand students give the city a liveliness that makes it lively and convivial both in summer and winter.

Apart from its Renaissance architecture and the fact that Rafaello was born there, Urbino is worth visiting for another reason. It was also the home of one of the most important warlords of the Middle Ages, Federico da Montefeltro, also known as Il Duca. As a warlord, Federico never lost a battle and - in contrast to many opponents - never put money above his honour. With the proceeds of his battles, he made Urbino into a leading humanist city with the largest library after the Vatican and a palace that still fires the imagination today.

The influence of the (Catholic) Church is also noticeable in Urbino; there are numerous churches and little churches (called oratori) such as the beautiful Oratorio San Giovanni Battista. The showpiece of Urbino, however, is the Duomo, a church originally built in 1021 and further developed under the supervision of Federico da Montefeltro. After the earthquake of 1789, the church was rebuilt and became what it is today.

Follow in the footsteps of Federico and Rafaello

The surroundings

Federico fought against many opponents but his archenemies were the Malatesta, led by Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, ruler of Rimini in Emilia-Romagna, the region north of Le Marche.

Camping Pronto Campi is still just in the province of Pesaro-Urbino, which is part of Le Marche, but it is definitely worth making a trip (or two) to the province of Rimini in Emilia-Romagna.

The history of the warring families of Montefeltro and Malatesta (which means headache in Italian) is reflected in a colourful landscape of castles, palaces and fortresses that lies within a 50 km radius of the campsite.

Castles like the one in Gradara and the fortress of San Leo are unique, but also a visit to Gubbio (which is just in Umbria) is unforgettable!

Travel back in time

The Palio

And then there is a category of holiday fun that is unique to Italy: the phenomenon of the Palio. According to the dictionary, this is a horse race between the districts of a town or village, but that is not true in all cases.

You name it, it is made into a Palio. In the immediate vicinity of Camping Pronto Campi you can find, for example, a Palio where the participants climb up a fairly steep path on stilts, or a Palio where a frog is driven on a pushcart over a course.

The Palio celebrations have at least one thing in common: there is always a lot of food and drink that is consumed at long tables with the locals. It is highly recommended to experience a Palio and it is very easy to do so, because the Palio season lasts from the end of April until September when the holidays in Italy are over.

Apart from the Palio, there are also the 'ordinary' Festa and Sagre, festivals where the focus is not on rivalry but on a particular meal or ingredient. Here too, the creativity of the Italians knows no bounds and there are festivals for the Grape, the Chestnut, the Tagliatella (a kind of pasta) or the local speciality of Urbino, the Crescia Sfogliata. The latter, called la Sagra della crescia sfogliata (sagra means contest) is all about who can prepare such a sandwich the fastest. Of course, nobody is interested in the winner, but it is all about having fun, eating, drinking and dancing on the dance floor to the accompaniment of the local band.

Le Marche is called Italy in miniature and rightly so; between the hills of Montefeltro and the beach of Sirolo, one feels like being in different countries, maybe even different continents!

Every active holidaymaker can indulge in the diversity of Mother Nature's offerings in Le Marche. For hikers, the Italian Ramblers' Association (CAI) has set out dozens if not hundreds of hiking trails that start a few kilometres from the campsite.

Looking for more adventure? Go to Monte Nerone, a mountain of about 1500 metres high that you can hike up from Piobbico. Do not underestimate it, because one day walking is not enough to reach the top!

It can also be fascinatingly beautiful below ground, whether it is the caves of Onferno or the underground passages of, for example, Ancona and Santarcangelo di Romagna.

A must see during your holiday is the Gola del Furlo, a gorge that has been closed off for centuries and through which a river flows that is great for swimming and fishing.

Put on your walking shoes!

The Beach

Looking for a slightly less active holiday? Of course you can! Apart from lazing around and enjoying the view from our swimming pool, Le Marche has a coastline that consists solely of beaches, where the choice is mainly whether you prefer to lie on pebbles or sandy beaches and whether you want to pay for your bed and umbrella or whether you prefer to lie on a public beach.

From Camping Pronto Campi you can go in all directions when it comes to beaches. In the direction of Emilia-Romagna, there are the beaches of Rimini, Riccione and Cattolica, and in Le Marche, the beach starts at Pesaro and then passes Fano, Marotta, Senigallia and Ancona to finish at Sirolo. Admittedly, Sirolo is a longer drive, but it is certainly worthwhile to see it once, possibly in combination with a visit to Ancona or the caves of Frasassi!

Your beach chair awaits!
